5 Fireplace Stays for Cosy Calmness With Reactive Dogs

Why Autumn Stays Are Perfect for Anxious & Reactive Dogs

By Lorren & Loki. Published on Saturday, 6th of September, 2025.

I know that travelling with an anxious or reactive dog isn’t easy. You want a break that feels peaceful, private, and calming, not one filled with crowded walks, busy beaches, and stressful encounters. That’s why the autumn 'ber' months (September, October, November and December) are such a perfect time for dog-friendly getaways. Out of season staycations are often the secret to uninterrupted peace!

Seasoned anxious dog parents get it, the quieter walks, fewer "fair-weather walkers", and the joy of returning to a fireplace-lit home away from home make this season bliss. To help you plan, we’ve gathered 5 of our favourite dog-friendly stays with log burners; each one offering comfort, calm, and those cosy autumn vibes reactive dogs (and their humans) love.

Even better? These properties all still have some availability for September through December 2025. Most of our cottages are fully booked by now, so grab your autumn dates while you can.

The Hideaway, Fife

The Hideaway, Fife

The Hideaway is an off-grid cabin surrounded by woodland at the back and rolling fields that run towards the sea in front. On misty mornings, the views are nothing short of magical, with a soft haze over the fields with the coastline beyond, and the hush of the woods behind you. From your doorstep, you’ll find quiet trails and even a peaceful stretch of beach just a short stroll away, perfect for reactive dogs who need calm, crowd-free walks.

Inside, the cabin is cosy and inviting. A wood burner glows at its centre, filling the room with warmth as you settle in after a day outdoors. Expansive windows draw the outside in, framing the ever-changing landscape so that even while curled up on the sofa (dogs welcome, of course) you feel connected to the world beyond.

As night falls, step onto the deck and watch steam rise from your mug as the stars emerge overhead. Life slows here a place of stillness, firelight, and starlit skies.

Coed Llydan, North Wales

Set in the peaceful landscapes of North Wales, Coed Llydan is a beautifully renovated stone barn that harmoniously merges traditional features with modern luxury. Stunning wood panelling, flagstone flooring, and earthy tones create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Carefully chosen upcycled or restored furniture give the space character, making it a stylish yet cosy retreat for you and your reactive dog.

After quiet walks along nearby misty and incredibly peaceful woodland trails or forest paths (where you're unlikely to see anyone), return to a crackling log burner where dogs are welcome on the furniture, ready to snuggle up and relax. For the ultimate indulgence, soak away in the wood-fired hot tub under a canopy of stars.

With a private fenced outdoor garden and a woodland space surrounding this tranquil setting, Coed Llydan is designed for peaceful, dog-friendly autumn escapes. In this sanctuary, both you and your sensitive pup can unwind in comfort and style. The host is also the proud owner of an anxious dog and understands all doggy guests' needs!

The Boot Room, Lancashire

Tucked away in the countryside, The Boot Room is the definition of country autumn comfort. Think exposed stone walls, rustic beams, and the golden glow of a log burner. The kind of traditional warmth that makes crisp autumn walks even more rewarding. Add in a private sauna for you, and plenty of snuggle spots where dogs are welcome on the furniture, and you’ve found the perfect setting for a cosy, dog-friendly autumn stay.

With secure outdoor space and peaceful countryside walks right on the doorstep, and access to an enclosed field on site, it’s ideal for reactive dogs who need calm surroundings. Indulge in a misty September morning or a frosty December day and return to your sauna or hot bath with the fire crackling.

The Hideaway Hut, Worcestershire

Tucked away on Rowley Farm in Worcestershire, The Hideaway Hut is a beautifully crafted shepherds hut surrounded by open fields and orchard views. With a private garden and plenty of countryside calm, it’s a peaceful retreat where reactive dogs can settle easily into the slower rhythms of autumn. Quiet walks and a fenced paddock are right on your doorstep, with tranquil trails winding through farmland and a small woodland.

Inside, the hut balances cosy charm and modern comfort. A log burner flickers, casting a cosy glow over the open-plan living space, while underfloor heating keeps things perfectly snug after a crisp morning walk. As dusk falls, step out into your enclosed garden and sink into the wood-fired hot tub beneath a pear tree, where steam drifts into the cool evening air as the stars emerge overhead.

Old Boswednack, Zennor

Nestled in the serene hamlet of Zennor, Old Boswednack is a beautifully furnished, single-storey barn conversion that offers a peaceful retreat for you and your reactive dog. This former piggery has been thoughtfully renovated to provide a warm and welcoming space, featuring a cosy log burner at its heart.

The open-plan living area is designed for relaxation, with comfortable furnishings and a layout that encourages togetherness. Dogs are welcome on the furniture, ensuring they can relax alongside you. The enclosed garden offers a secure space for your dog to explore, while the nearby fields and moor provide quiet, scenic walks away from crowded areas. The moors and historical sites add to the peaceful ambience, making it an ideal, open and utterly peaceful location for walking reactive dogs.

For added comfort, the property includes a summer house, affectionately known as 'The Shack,' which serves as a tranquil spot for reading, painting, or simply unwinding. With its combination of comfort, tranquillity, and dog-friendly amenities, Old Boswednack is a perfect choice for a relaxing autumn getaway.
