Walking Routes
Some routes near the castle may have more walkers, but you can easily enjoy the expansive grounds and find quiet spots around the cottage.

Along with the way-marked woodland walks, there are miles of estate roads offering stunning views, and even space for a doggy paddle in the River Nith. As you explore, you'll come across a range of habitats and features that make Drumlanrig so special. Keep an eye out for one of the red squirrels while soaking in the beauty of the outdoors.

Warm Welcome
Welcome hampers await human and hound with local gin and fudge for the humans and bowls, poo bags, and treats for doggy guests.

Sofa Snuggles
Dogs are welcome to join you on the furniture with throws.

Things to note

Livestock
Sheep graze the vast surrounding grounds, including the space surrounding and directly opposite the garden fence.

The Garden
The garden area is fully fenced; however, it may not be secure for smaller dogs. Secondary fencing on the gate for smaller dogs is to be completed - please check when you book to see if it has been completed. Without it, it may be unsuitable and not secure for smaller dogs due to the gaps in the main gate.

Nestled on the enchanting grounds of Drumlanrig Castle, Slatehouse offers guests a truly extraordinary location steeped in Scottish heritage and renowned for its breath-taking landscapes and rich historical significance. Half a mile away, Drumlanrig Castle, often referred to as the "Pink Palace" due to its distinctive sandstone, serves as a majestic focal point of the landscape.

The castle's vast estate creates an unparalleled backdrop for exploration, offering extensive walking trails that wind through pristine woodlands, rolling hills, and dramatic Scottish countryside. Guests at Slatehouse can enjoy direct access to these magnificent grounds, experiencing the same sweeping views and natural beauty that surround the impressive 17th-century Douglas family castle. The estate surrounding Slatehouse features wide, well-maintained walking routes with generous paths that allow dog owners to easily manage their dogs' interactions and maintain comfortable distances from other visitors. These spacious walking trails wind through gorgeous scenery, offering plenty of exploration opportunities while ensuring dogs can feel secure and unstressed.

The heart of Slatehouse's comfort lies in its inviting log burner, casting a warm, flickering glow that transforms the living space into a sanctuary of relaxation. As flames dance within the wood burner, dogs can sprawl contentedly on the furniture and embrace the ultimate comfort of home using the provided soft throws.

The wood-fired hot tub adds another layer of luxury, offering a therapeutic space to unwind after adventurous walks, sinking into the steaming water while enjoying the peaceful views of the Nith Valley.

Slatehouse offers a spacious and beautifully designed kitchen, fully equipped to meet every guest's cooking needs. Featuring a comprehensive array of modern appliances including a refrigerator, freezer, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, microwave, and kettle. Four-legged guests will also feel truly welcome, with muddy paw towels, food, water and poo bags also provided on arrival.

The master bedroom boasts a luxurious king-size bed accompanied by a private ensuite shower room, offering guests a personal sanctuary of relaxation. Two additional double bedrooms provide comfortable sleeping spaces, while the fourth bedroom presents a versatile option - easily transformed from a king-size bed to two single beds to accommodate varying groups. Complementing the sleeping areas, Slatehouse features a stunning family bathroom centred around a contemporary freestanding bath, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration. A separate shower provides additional convenience, and a further discrete WC ensures maximum comfort for all guests. This thoughtful design allows up to eight guests to enjoy a seamless, comfortable stay with ample space and privacy.
