Tucked away on a quiet Welsh hillside in rural north Wales, this little shepherd’s hut is set on its own grassy rise overlooking a glistening spring-fed lake. This wee hut feels completely secluded. From every direction, there’s nothing but open countryside, soft green hills, and sheep grazing lazily in the distance. The rippling water reflects the shifting Welsh sky silver in the morning, gold at sunset, and mirror-black beneath the stars.
Perfect for anxious or reactive dogs, the hut sits entirely on its own with no passing guests, traffic, or nearby noise. ( other than the odd quack from the residing waterfowl). The fenced area means most dogs can potter about securely, while the open space beyond offers endless walks. The air here feels still, calm, and healing, ideal for those seeking rest, privacy, and a quiet escape.
Inside
Inside, the traditional shepherd’s hut has been lovingly fitted with a fixed double bed, a cosy log-effect fire, and a warm wooden interior that catches the glow of the evening sun. Sunlight streams through the small window onto your welcoming, plump pillows and soft grey throws. Every detail feels thoughtful and simple. There’s a flushing toilet and a shower inside, so while you’ll be mostly off-grid, comfort hasn’t been forgotten for those who don’t like an eco toilet.
Step outside
Step outside to your private decking with views stretching across the Dee Valley and the towering Berwyn Mountains. In the evening, light the open fire beside the lake, listen to the crackle of the logs, and watch the sky turn gold and lilac. Guests are welcome to try wild swimming, fly fishing, or kayaking in the natural lake, and two kayaks are provided for your use. The nearest pub is a three-mile stroll along quiet country lanes, though you might just prefer to stay put, cooking your own meal and watching the stars appear. A few steps away, a rustic outdoor kitchenette waits beneath a timber canopy. Rustic and practical, featuring a live-edge counter, sink, bottled spring water, a double gas ring and a kettle always ready for the next brew. With green enamel mugs awaiting! Hanging hooks keep utensils close to hand, and there’s even a small fridge for essentials. ( really nice to have at a more off-grid location).
There’s also a charcoal BBQ for those who love cooking over open flames (That’s us, simple, honest, and done at its own pace, with the sound of birds and rippling water in the background.)
The hosts are very welcoming and are just a three-minute walk away from the welcoming farmhouse. Should you need help, you will find it greeted warmly by someone in wellies with a strong Welsh accent. The host wants you to feel as at home here as they do, and you will!
