Extra features

Dogs Stay Free of Charge
No dog charge and a thoughtful doggy hamper awaits! Designed to make every canine guest feel at home. It includes a bag of specially made natural dog treats, a treat bag with a roll of poo bags, and a selection of dog bowls, including an extra-large water bowl.

In the outdoor storage boxes, guests will find towels and a variety of toys for dogs, along with several small throws for added comfort.

Exempt Dogs Welcome
Guests wishing to bring XL Bullies or other exempt breeds are kindly asked to contact the host directly before booking. The hosts believe that responsible ownership should always be welcomed, and as long as guests can provide an up-to-date exemption certificate and follow current legislation (keeping dogs on leads and muzzled when outside of the secure garden), these much-loved companions are happily accepted.

Due to its 1.5 metre high fencing, Bumblebee Cabin is the only retreat suitable for exempt breeds on the site.

Secure Gardens
The garden has 5ft fencing and is also secure for smaller dogs.

Dogs Allowed on Furniture
Dogs are allowed on all furniture as long as guests bring throws to protect them. Bedding and towels are added as extras at the time of booking, as many guests, particularly those travelling with their dogs, prefer to bring their own. If using the host's bedding, guests are asked to bring their own throws for the beds to protect them from paws.

Adults Only
Shepherds Rest is an adults-only retreat, thoughtfully created for guests seeking peace, quiet, and a slower pace. With no children, it offers a calm, uninterrupted atmosphere perfect for unwinding and reconnecting.

Things to note

Unplugged
There’s no Wi-Fi on-site, the goal is to help guests truly switch off and unplug. Guests are encouraged to put their phones away, reconnect with each other, and make the most of their surroundings. Whether it’s opening a bottle, heading out for a walk, or simply relaxing, it’s the perfect opportunity to disconnect.

For those who can’t resist checking in, there is good 4G coverage and USB charging sockets available.

Noise-sensitive dogs
Bumblebee sits within a secluded meadow surrounded by trees and hedgerows, offering a calm, enclosed setting away from traffic. Guests may occasionally hear distant farm machinery during harvest or faint road noise.

Shared Parking
The car park is shared but separate from the glamping meadow to maintain the site's peace and tranquillity and protect the habitat for local wildlife. The site has three cabins, so you would only encounter two other couples or solo guests, as the site is adults-only.

En route to the glamping meadow from the car park, the hosts have also created sniff trails and doggy passing places so that more nervous dogs can take time out if one of the other two cabin guests happens to be passing at the same point at arrival/departure.

Dogs
Bumblebee is one of three cosy cabins on site, and people may be heard briefly passing, and dogs may be seen briefly through fencing gaps, depending on your dog. You may hear other guests' dogs if they have them in the distance.

Find out more

Tucked away in a quiet corner of the Rutland countryside, Bumblebee Cabin offers a safe and serene dog-friendly escape in the East Midlands. With its secure 1.5 metre high fencing (the tallest of all three cabins at Rutland Rural Retreats), this peaceful hideaway is especially well-suited for anxious dogs and caters for all breeds, giving bully breed pet parents complete peace of mind from the moment they arrive.

Set within four acres of rolling meadowland, edged by hedgerows and soft streams, Rutland Rural Retreats is an adults-only escape designed for couples or solo travellers and their canine companions. The hosts understand that every dog is different, whether lively, nervous, or simply in need of a quiet reset, and they’ve created an environment where all dogs are genuinely welcome.

Bumblebee Cabin is one of three cabins at Rutland Rural Retreats. The three cabins are separated by trees, hazel hurdles, and meadow grasses, all contributing to a wonderful sense of seclusion. It’s the perfect setting for couples seeking a peaceful escape from it all, with a fully enclosed garden so dogs can safely explore while their humans unwind. Inside, the space is thoughtfully laid out for comfort and calm, with a cosy double bed, a warm ensuite shower room with underfloor heating, and a compact yet well-equipped kitchen that includes a hob, fridge, and combination oven. The wooden breakfast bar catches the morning light, setting the tone for unhurried days in the countryside.

Inside
Inside, guests will find everything they need for a comfortable stay: Hairdryer, two fans, all crockery and cooking utensils, kettle, rechargeable candles, board games, walking books, rechargeable torch, hangers, washing up liquid, handwash, shower wash, and starter supplies for that first evening – cooking oil, tea, coffee, sugar, condiments; we also provide a welcome pack for the humans that typically includes local cake & bread, tiptree jams, chocolates, butter and milk.
a king-size bed in a separate bedroom, a pull-out leather day bed, a handcrafted kitchenette with a Belfast sink, an oak worktop, an oven, a hob, and a fridge. There’s also a stylish en-suite bathroom with an electric shower, flushing toilet, and underfloor heating for a true glamping escape.

For Dogs
But it’s the dog-friendly touches that make Bumblebee truly special. Guests are greeted with a hamper containing a bag of natural dog treats made especially for the retreat. Outside the cabin, a welcome treat bag awaits, complete with a roll of poo bags, while inside, guests will find two to three dog bowls and an extra-large water bowl.

Every detail has been considered:

  • Towels for dogs and a selection of toys are neatly stored in outdoor boxes.
  • Small throws are provided for comfort (though guests are encouraged to bring their own, too).
  • Each garden includes a dog teepee for shade and snoozing, and from next year, a doggy sail will add even more cool lounging space.
  • Doggy sun loungers, ramps for smaller, elderly, or poorly pups, and paddling trays for hot days.
  • At the entrance to the meadow, a large splash pool offers a refreshing dip for dogs before or after their countryside adventures.

Outside
Step outside in the evening and relax around the fire pit and BBQ, ideal for stargazing or a quiet fireside dinner. As twilight settles, the meadow glows with soft light, and a sense of peace takes over, the kind that anxious dogs (and their owners) rarely find elsewhere.

Just a short drive from Uppingham’s market town and the Rutland Water Nature Reserve, Bumblebee is perfectly placed for scenic walks, good food, and slow, happy days.

For those seeking a dog-friendly retreat designed with genuine care, Bumblebee Cabin is the perfect spot. Luggage trolleys are provided to carry belongings from the car park, across the wooden footbridge and babbling brook, to your peaceful retreat. Just bring your toiletries, food and your appetite for relaxation!
